Hi Julia

Maybe more liquefieing oil than drawing out. The reason I suggest an oil based precleanser is because it helps to dissolve oil gently, meaning less harsh scrubbing toning.

Daily cleansing and toning can be hard on some skin types. Products containing light, plant-based oils like olive or kernel can help to gently loosen pollutants and products like the aforementioned sun screen and long-lasting make-up. These conditions can exist on normal or oily skin.

In chemistry, oil attracts oil, therefore a product that is oil based is likely to be more effective when dissolving oil based debris on the surface of the skin.

Thanks for the comment dermalogica fan! I do feel though that a quality cleanser and toner will between them remove all the make up and even waterproof sun screen. The ones I use certainly do. I'd be happy to give details to anyone interested.

Also I don't quite see how using an oil based cleanser would draw oil out of the pores. Do you perhaps mean a cleanser specifically for oily skin? - as I mention, make sure you use a cleanser for your specific skin type.

Thanks

Useful to mention considering a double cleansing routine, as many cleansers are ineffective at removing make up and waterproof sun screens. Choose an oil based one that draws oil out of the pores. This will ensure that your regular cleanser does its job more effectively.
